Sarah made me do this. [Jan. 24th, 2011|08:50 pm]
Mozart Without The Charm
I HAVE FIFTEEN CHARACTERS. YOU DON'T KNOW THEM. ASK ME QUESTIONS ABOUT THEM FOR TEH LULZ.

Ex: What would #1 and #5 do if they were trapped in a room together with a gun.

ASK QUESTIONS. GO.

1) Make a list of fifteen characters first, and keep it to yourself for the moment.

2) Ask your flist to post questions in the comments. For example: 'One, nine and fifteen are chosen by a prophecy to save the world from four. Do they succeed?' 'Under what circumstances might five and fourteen fall in love?' 'Which character on the list would you most want on your side in a zombie invasion?' 'Write a drabble in which three and eleven fight crime.' (...possibly not technically a question.)

3) After your flist has asked enough questions, round them up and answer them using the fifteen characters you selected beforehand, then post them.

I don't even need something sarcastic to go with this.

THIS EXPLAINS A LOT.

"On Monday, September 7th, 2009, Mercury the cosmic trickster turns retrograde in the sign of the Scales, sending communications, travel, appointments, mail and the www into a general snarlup! The retro period begins some days before the actual turning point (as Mercury slows) and lasts for three weeks or so, until Sep. 29."

Screw you, Mercury.

[Current Music |My crazy neighbor rambling]

There was a roach at work yesterday.

And I sadly don't mean the kind that makes you stare at your hands and giggle.

My bug phobia is pretty considerable...I've only just gotten enough courage to kill centipedes with a nice stomp. I used to have to stand at a distance and hairspray them.

I was busy making a salad for the only lady in a group of uppity salad-munchers to tip me when one of my co-workers steps behind me and very quietly tells me:

"A roach just crawled across the floor..."

What scared me more than the prospect of a bug crawling around behind the counter was the fact that when I looked down, it wasn't there. Now, I know that you can't jump and scream six-legged bloody murder in front of customers. Especially in front of the only one who bothered to leave you some change for a rather laborous salad. So what do you do? You sing to yourself and contain every terrified emotional fiber that just wants to break into hysterical laughter.

And then it appeared again, crawling its way up the counter. My brave co-worker swept it off and it lay writhing on its back, struggling to regain composure so it could continue to disgust and harass the human race. Salad-Lady continued to look around and smile, fantastically oblivious.

I scrambled to finish making the food as best I could without cutting off a finger and all but threw it at Salad-Lady. She thanked us and left. Then the manager came out of the back room and laid the smack down on the intruder, and the six-legged devil was nicely smeared.

Then I went to sit and breathe and let out my hysterical laughter.

BLEH.

Despite turning 23 today, I'm inclined to believe that people still like me.

At the moment, I'm having some well-deserved alone time at the downtown Cup-O-Joe before dancing like a crazy person with some very lovely people.

But right now it's just me, free wi-fi and a gin + tonic.

That is how you spell "happy birthday".

:D

And now, I present to you...

The many faces of great violinists!
This is my small case study on different violinists and their ability to be aurally orgasmic while also being a visual failure.

Exhibit A: Leonid Kogan (WHO LET ONE RIP!?)
The man plays like a god. A god who is constantly smelling something completely foul. He pays very careful attention to each note and phrase and the aroma of decaying flesh.

Exhibit B: Jascha Heifetz (What do you MEAN 64th is the smallest subdivision of a note?! 128th is where it's at!)
The (mostly) undisputed technical csar of everything violin. This video is a little dorky, but it's very famous. Part of Heifetz's charm as being a completely flawless (you'll never hear anything resembling a sour note) fiddler is that he can make it all seem like nothing...which is also part of the problem. There is emotion pouring out of his music, but all the while he looks like he's standing and listening to the phone book being read dramatically...or maybe he's just bored by the music of mere mortals...it's also possible that he was on drugs and half-comatose.

Exhibit C: Maxim Vengerov (The Face of Douche)
The quintessential "butterface" of the violin world. This is possibly the most irratating violinist to watch who ever walked the earth. He is also one of the better at balancing emotion and technique in his music. So how can someone so wonderful look so douchey while making beautiful music? It's a paradox I'll never work out.

Exhibit D: Joshua Bell (How to Not Fail)
To avoid musical paper bag syndrome, make sweet, passionate love to Beethoven's notes. Mmmmm...those octaves make me hot. WORK that cadenza! WORK IT.

Sitting and drinking a beer while listening to "Bolero".

It makes me feel nice and more optimistic about life. :D
